My Blog List

This is not exactly an exegesis of Kandharalangaram. A friend, who is more a path-breaker for me, suggested some time ago that I should read this great text. Now I start with Thirumuruga Kirubhanandha Variar's commentary, and here are my reflections on this great poetic and devotional work of Arunagirinathar. May the Lord bless us with Peace and Happiness!

varuvar thalaiyir thadapadenappadu kuttudan sarkarai mokkiya kai kadathada kumbak kaliru: Description of Ganesa. There should be deep symbolism here, but I prefer to take this literally as the description of the elephant face of the God, Ganesa.

The devotees who worship Ganesa, are described as rapping their temples with their knuckes in a rat-tat-tat. The Lord himself loves sugar, His hand (trunk) wallows in it- this is said to be a symbolism of the individuality of the devotees which the Lord loves to take in and digest-, His forehead is wide, His crown in prominent, and the pith is referred to, I think.
